Terms and Conditions

Spiritual companionship · No therapy claims · Offline-first

These terms govern your use of the Sakinah mobile application. By downloading or using Sakinah, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.

1. What Sakinah is

Sakinah is an Islamic emotional wellness app. It maps emotional states to curated Qur'an, Hadith, and du'a content from published scholarly sources. It helps users reflect on their emotional state through verified Islamic guidance.

Sakinah is a tool for spiritual companionship — a calm, supportive space. It is not:

  • A clinical therapeutic service or mental-health treatment
  • A medical device or diagnostic tool
  • A substitute for professional medical, psychiatric, or crisis care
  • A source of formal legal rulings (fatawa) or binding religious authority

Nor do the developers claim to be scholars, muftis, therapists, or religious authorities. The app surfaces carefully sourced Islamic texts — nothing more.

2. Emotional wellness and safety

Sakinah includes content related to emotional states including sadness, anxiety, anger, fear, hopelessness, and guilt. This is spiritual guidance rooted in the Qur'an and Sunnah, not medical advice.

If you are experiencing a mental-health crisis, thoughts of self-harm or suicide, or are in immediate danger, please contact emergency services or a crisis support line in your country immediately. Sakinah is not designed or intended for crisis response.

3. Content and accuracy

Qur'anic text, translations, tafsir, Hadith, isnad chains, and du'a content are curated from published scholarly sources including Quran.Foundation, Quran.com, Sunnah.com, and named classical translators and mufassirs. We make every effort to ensure accuracy and proper citation. However, if you notice an error, please contact us.

AI tooling is not used to generate any religious content displayed in the app — including Arabic text, translations, tafsir, hadith, isnad chains, du'a, or scholarly commentary.

4. Subscription and billing

Sakinah+ is an optional paid subscription that unlocks premium features including structured plans, premium companion tools, and customisation options. Subscriptions are processed through Google Play Billing.

  • Payment is handled by Google Play — we do not collect or store payment card details.
  • Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Google Play account settings.
  • Refund requests must be made through Google Play — we cannot process refunds directly.

Core Islamic content — Qur'an, Hadith, du'a, prayer times, and qibla — is and will remain free.

5. Intellectual property

Qur'anic text, translations, tafsir, and Hadith content are the intellectual property of their respective publishers and translators and are used in accordance with their licensing terms. The Sakinah app design, code, and original curated content are the property of the developer.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer the app or its content outside the normal use of the application.

6. Limitation of liability

Sakinah is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. The developer is not liable for:

  • Emotional distress arising from engagement with religious content
  • Decisions or actions taken based on content in the app
  • Service interruptions, bugs, or data loss on your device
  • Third-party content or services linked from the app

Your use of Sakinah is at your own risk. The app is a spiritual reflection tool, not a guarantee of any particular emotional or spiritual outcome.

7. Cancellation rights (UK)

If you are a consumer based in the UK, you have a legal right to cancel a subscription within 14 days of purchase under the Consumer Contracts Regulations. However, this right is lost once you access or download the digital content. As Sakinah+ features are available immediately upon purchase, you acknowledge that your right to cancel is waived once you begin using the premium features.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If the digital content is not as described, not fit for purpose, or not of satisfactory quality, you may be entitled to a repair, replacement, price reduction, or refund.

8. Third-party services and links

Sakinah links to external services including Sunnah.com, Quran.com, and Quran.Foundation for content verification. The app also uses Firebase (analytics and crash reporting), RevenueCat and Google Play Billing (subscription management), and Vercel Analytics (website usage). These services operate under their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their practices.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted at this URL with a new “last updated” date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
